Saemaeul Foundation (CEO Seungjong Lee) announced that it, together with the Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC), created a smart classroom in Holy Family School in Kurunegala County, Northwestern Province, Sri Lanka and held an opening ceremony on the 24th.

The opening ceremony was held on this day with the attendance of approximately 600 people, including Northwestern Province Governor Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka Lee Mi-yeon, relevant government officials, students, and parents.

This project was promoted with the purpose of bridging the gap in IT education between urban and rural areas in Sri Lanka, and Saemaul Foundation used donations from the Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC) to remodel classrooms and install state-of-the-art equipment, including 30 computers, 3 electronic whiteboards, and 2 air conditioners. A smart classroom was created.

Using the recently completed smart classroom, computer and other IT classes will be provided to 2,500 middle and high school students at Holy Family School.

Seungjong Lee, CEO of Saemaeul Foundation, said, “This smart classroom support project was promoted in cooperation with JDC, with which the foundation signed a business agreement, with the aim of bridging the educational gap between urban and rural areas. We hope that in the future, rural students in Sri Lanka will receive the same educational benefits in the IT field as those in the city,” he said.

Meanwhile, Saemaul Foundation Sri Lanka Office (Director Choi Seong-woo) is working closely with the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Development in Sri Lanka to plan to promote regionalization projects and national Saemaul projects based on the results of the pilot village creation project.
